check it.. kerkhof is having a yard sale.. email him at josh@joshkerkhof.com if interested.
that's it.. i'm building the arc : )

looks like another day of no riding.. these days i refuse to ride my trainer. i guess too many years of being too serious.. errr.. or maybe not serious enough. i dunno.. whatever, i'm still not riding my trainer. on a positive note.. i should be plenty fresh for tulsa this weekend. i'll be making a guest appearance with my buddies on mercy cycling team.. but don't be confused.. my heart still belongs to my boys over at colonels.

i'm still licking my wounds.. but hopefully i can muster up some magic and bring home some of that $45,000! it's going to be pretty stiff competition up there.. this event usually brings most of the top amateur teams from across the country - it's absolute chaos.. we'll see.

here's a good photo that my buddy watson sent me.. the cr1 in full flight.

i'll try and update as much as i can this weekend.. wish me luck!

a three-peat wasn't in the cards today.. mother nature played her hand and turned the race upside down.. literally for some.

a smaller field than in years past.. i guess due to the weather. but the racing was still plenty fast and aggressive.. well worthy of producing a great '07 criterium champion.

for me.. not really much to report. i'm a little disappointed but that's the way racing goes. as soon as the rain touch the pavement.. i, mentally, check out. the sad thing was that i was in a three man break with two of the strongest guys in the race (dalhiem (san jose) & seagrave (compliance depot)).. i'm pretty damn sure it would have succeeded had it not rained. once we were caught.. the were crashes EVERYWHERE.. at least two per lap. the notable mishaps were: 1. dille (good to see you back) - into a tree 2. dalhiem - 11 stitches to the chin. I hope you both heal up soon!

in the end.. of the 70 starters, there where less than 20 finishers.. with nathan rogut of compliance depot killing it in the sprint.

the colonels army rode great today but chopper was definitely the standout. the dude rode unbelievable.. i'm proud of him.

on another note.. at least one kiernan was able to brave the weather and finish the race.

my angel..

damn she's cute : )

the long road ahead of us!

rain.. uuggggg. it sux. my bike had to be completely overhauled yesterday (thanks TIM!) due to the rain.. it was fuuugg'd up.

race went alright.. i was mainly trying to help chopper but i think he was having a "off" day. he rode super well but started to fade a little in the closing laps - it's a tough course. in the end, the break of three (cagle, gandara, & vargas) wasn't caught.. i was able to scrape up the scraps for 4th.

the whole reason i like doing that race is to see how the competition is riding.. yesterdays course is tough so it's easy to see who is riding well.

some guys to watch:
- top three from yesterday - cagle (non-texan), vargas, gandara
- my man veggie - the dude is riding awesome
- rothe - always STRONG
- thsj - take your pick. fawley, dalheim, vargas, wheeler, etc.. they're all threats.. strength in numbers.
- compliance - seagrave & densmore
- Brain & Spine - kurtz & foccia
- Colonels - all of us : )

the weather forecast isn't looking sooo good. if it's raining, it's going to completely change the dynamics. i, for one, probably won't race.. i have to get up and go to work on tuesday. but saying that.. we'll see. it will probably take several people out.. leaving a smaller field fighting it out for the v. if it's wet, i predict a small (2 or 3) break will decimate the field.

speaking of wet.. i better run and hop on the trainer. wish me luck!

ohh yea.. i also want to give a HUGE shout-out to my man looney for hookin' me up with some super pimp scott argyle socks & swankster hat. scott bikes are the best!

it's 4am.. can't sleep. damnit!

ohh well.. surfin' the net. check this thing out:

surFy likey.. surFy want one : )

colonels army representing again tonight. 3 outta 4 in the break. pretty much a team time trial with the exception of the ever present edgar ibarra.. who, almost, pulled off the upset. we didn't ride very smart.. but we were able to notch up another V so i guess that's all that matters. chopper is the man.. watch out for him this weekend.

for those who don't know edgar.. he's one of the nicest guys out there. i'm always stoked to see him, both on and off the bike. between him and leo frayre, they've brought an entire new element to the tuesday night atmosphere. there's a whole latin cheering section who love to cheer on their heroes.. it's awesome to see!

my boy, adam wilk, was also out tonight. he was wearing some super sick scottusa clothing. can't wait till that sheit hits the retail stores.

another blast from the past was chris carlson. for those of you who don't know carlson (which i'm sure everybody does).. the dude is a TOTAL BADASS. example.. the above linked photo was taken after he and mariano friedick beat lance armstrong and kevin livingston in the 1997 tour de gruene. this photo is carlson bridging up to a young superstar, lance armstrong, in the 1992 la primavera. arguably the best thing texas has produced since chicken fried steak. hopefully i can talk he and wilk into strapping on a colonels kit : )

hey mom.. we're getting the band back together.

time for some sleep. enjoy.

not much to update.. gettin' ready to head out to the t-niter. bags are packed and the bike is clean. legs are a little tired and sore but i'll have plenty of time to recover before the weekend extravaganza.

it also looks like i'm going to have a new columnist for surfernick.com. our very own andrew willis is going to add some of his very colorful and insightful rants. stay tuned..

wish me luck tonight : )

busy weekend.. saturday morning i rode 8o mi's with dale, richey, and matty wick in the rain.. that sucked. actually, now that i think about it, it wasn't that bad. dale is pretty damn funny so it made the time pass pretty quick. we also saw my buddy, kurt arnould, out on the ride. he's a super cool dude who's always fun to ride with.

after the ride, i scarfed down a burrito bowl from chipotle.. yum.. and then it was under the tdi to remove the cracked a/c hose. twenty minutes later, the hose is off and now i'm on my way to help my best bud, donman, with some finish trim in his new outdoor room. 48 1x2's and five hours later.. i'm done. and the finished product looks amazing. the interior of the room is slated rough cedar with a 16' vaulted ceiling. it probably measures somewhere in the neighborhood of 20' x 20'. it's super relaxing.. the PERFECT place to kick back a couple (or few) bottles of wine : )

sunday.. yard work : (

woke up.. late. mama and i ended up having a few cocktails with the crew over @ 601. i think my head finally hit the pillow about 3am.

a little starbucks, venti café americano, and it's off to the back yard. armed with my cordless saws-all, a pair of pruning sheers, and my utility knife, i decided to conquer the rear fence line of 602. this is a HUGE undertaking. behind 602 is a sewer ditch, where maggie came from, infested with mosquitoes, bugs, probably killer snakes, and thick brush.

but it was no match.. i had it knocked out in no time at all. the saws-all went through that stuff like butter. although, i might have been a little over zealous.. i now have a 10' pile of brush in the middle of my back yard and no way to get rid of it. josh a., if you're reading this, can i borrow the truck ; )

worked till' about 6 back there and then called it a day..

and the fun began. my boy tim and i fired up the motorpace scooter and headed out for a little ass kicking. tim drove while i hung on for dear life.. and i do mean dear life. in some areas we were doing over 40mph.. on the flats! it was definitely a good tune up for next weekend.

speaking of.. everybody should try and come out. it's a great course and is very spectator friendly. they even have a kids race at 12:30.. ella can't wait!

on a sad note. word on the street is that my man scottie veggeberg isn't going to make it up next weekend. rumor is that he's, once again, hung up the 10speed and is now focusing on drift car racing. after recently watching "the fast and the furious tokyo drift" he decided it was time. "the movie really spoke to me" veggie explained.. i say, follow your dreams.. go for it boy! vaya con dios amigo.

now, time to relax..

sweet dreams,

again, not too much sleep last night. i wish it was from something cool but.. not so much.

i did finally see blades of glory.. i got a pretty big kick outta that. although, disturbingly, i saw many direct correlations to the cycling world - minus the sequins. scratch that.. i forgot about "big daddy" russ walker.

i mean it's perfect.. on one hand you have the sex gawd superstar, chazz michael michaels.. aka phil wikoff. and on the other hand.. you have the naive, privileged, jimmy macelroy.. aka david wenger. in the end, the unlikely duo teams up to "dominate" the figure skating (txbra) world. i haven't quite figured out who team Van Waldenberg is yet.. but i'm leaning towards the austin powerhouse squad of san jose.. secretly plotting the demise of "macelroy & michaels" in this years texas state road race championships. to be continued...

now on to the k:1. bio mechanically, everything is still working fine.. and i do mean works fine : ) although the knee is a little sore this morning : ( i think i may have had the saddle a few mm's high. overall the saddle felt good. it took a little while adjusting to the fact it doesn't have the cut out in the center but after a couple of hours, it felt "normal". i'm not sure it's worth $400 but considering the prices of a pair of handlebars these days, it's on par. i'm going to give it a few more days before i make a final determination..

i need to make sure that i'm good and comfortable for the upcoming races..

i slept for 11 hours last night.. i guess i needed the rest. but, somehow, i still woke up tired..

baby girl came to work with me today. she's stuffed about 200 envelopes so far.. but now she's "bored". any advice?? when i used to go to work with my dad, all i needed was a bunch of paper to play trashcan basketball and a box of sugar cubes. i guess times have changed..

i'm anxious to try out my new super fancy fizik k:1 saddle. i plan on riding 4 hr's tonight but we'll see how it feels.. it looks like it could prevent any future generations of surFnick from running around : ( i'll report in tomorrow and let you know how it goes.

it looks pretty sexy..

NEWS FLASH: the hairy legged, half-dutchman is going to shave.. after 9 months and 600 mi's of vigorous training he topples all opponents at the local ft. worth wednesday nighter. congrats lil' (or big & hairy) kerkhof!

keep your chin up blacksnake..
i'm freeeaking beat.. i need some rest!

tuesday, tuesday, tuesday.. i didn't plan on heading out but kerkhof came into town so i was a bit obligated. going into it i knew i was going to have to ride hard in order not to let kerkhof beat up on me.. i think his total mileage for the year is equal to a typical fawley week : )

up front, chopper and bret were in control of a four man break containing geoff godsey & edgar ibarra that split off about 20 mins into the 60 min race. i tried a couple of times to get across solo but couldn't quite make it. the wind took it's toll on the rest of the field as it was split into smaller groups. the chase group of 20 was lead by dalheim (who was riding very strong), fawley, and the super cool gstz crew. the pace was high, but not high enough to catch determined quartet up the road. in the end, the ever loyal chopper set bret up perfectly for his first tuesday win of the season.

and my suspicions of kerhog were correct.. he smoked them in the field sprint for 6th. luckily i saw the danger and persuited the last lap in order not to get embarrassed by the hairy leg half-dutchman.

now if we can just carry this momentum into the memorial day weekend ; )

ohhh.. and on the way to the race we almost front-ended (?) jim byrd in his new SUPER PIMP 7 series bmw. pierre failed to remember that he had it in reverse at the tollbooth at 170 and renner.. as he stomped on the gas pedal he quickly realized it and smashed on the break. jim didn't get near as big of kick out of it as i did - sorry jim!

colonels representing tonight. three in the top five.. including the big V via bret crosby.

full report tomorrow..

Monday, May 14, 2007

changed the layout of the blog a bit.. actually bret did most of the work. what do you think? now when i'm online, you can bug me via the im window on the side.. stoopid.

but speaking of work.. i'm moving my office tomorrow but i'm not telling anyone. i want to see how long it will take for somebody to notice. probably not too long. but on second thought.. it could be a couple of weeks. at any rate, i'm going to have to leave a little earlier in the morning cause it's on the sixth floor.

ella has her end of the year program tonight.. she's singing "hola amiga" in spanish.. go figure. she tells me that she's a spanish girl. she's three and knows more spanish than me.. maybe i need to ask lena about that.

some pic's of my trusty steeds..

whew.. it's going to be a HAWT summer. the humidity was brutal this morning. i was hoping to head up to joe martin this weekend but mama squashed it. maybe better though.. i didn't feel so good on my ride this morning.

that being said.. i decided that i'm going to go ahead and extend mothers day through monday. hell.. i might even go right into tuesday - high noon. high noon you ask?? well.. it's tuesday.. time for the tuesday niter. kerkhof will be in the house so we'll cruise on out there.. maybe bonedaddy's for a post race refreshment or two. also.. rumor is that blacksnake (aka will black) is going to make the journey out and represent in colonels colors. i'm keeping my fingers crossed : )

since it's been a while.. i thought i would also update you on some changes that took place at 6o2 while i had a little "down time". it's kind of an oasis in the heart of euless...

i also built the fence..

From aNUT: "Does this look normal doc?"

Though apparently the doctor said it went well.

Friday, May 11, 2007

damn.. it's been a while. where do i start??

first off.. i'm back. thanks jd! i tried in vein to quit racing.. but old habits are hard to break : ) maybe next year??

emry is now 6 months old and growing like a weed. it's amazing how fast they grow. ella is going to be 4 next month. i was always told to cherish the time you have with your kids.. i'll wake up shortly (hopefully) and my baby girls will be moving on : ( it's going to break my heart.

the tdi is still running.. barely. the a/c went out a few weeks ago and now the central locking system has taken a crap. so now i can't roll my windows down or lock the doors without using the key. not good in the texas heat. the stupid a/c hose is $300.. hopefully i can install it next week.. with the help of el-dawg.

i'm racing bikes this year with colonels bikes.. stop by sometime and check out the new shop. they're the coolest dudes on the planet! i'll also be doing a few appearances with the mercy cycling team out of ft. smith arkansas. we're riding scott usa bicycles this year.. they're freaking sick. mine weighs south of 15lbs. they also hooked me up with a tt rig - the scott plasma. that thing is CRAZY fast. i'll try and post some pictures this weekend.

ohh yea.. my dog, ludo, ran away last night. hopefully he's shacked up with some hot bitch : ) i can't blame him for leaving maggie.

ludo, if you're reading this.. come back and visit often. you'll always have a place at 602.

i've missed all of you.. check back often.
