[ i thought this was funny ]
the word...

the word on the street is that lp is heading west.. orange county west. for those who don't know lp, you're missing out. the dude is a total badass both on and off the bike. he's what.. 50 years old and still killing it. he's got a SUPER HOT wife (and sister-in-law) that's my age.. bastard. he also has a mini-surfer named nick - i promise i had nothing to do with it.. tests confirmed it.

he will be greatly missed in the mid-cities cycling community. i've been riding with this guy since i started so it'll be tough to see him go : ( GOOD LUCK LP

hummm...

can't decide if i should head out to denton or not.. just don't really feel like racing today.

i feel like cleaning up the wood shop and drinking some cold beer - like a man should. maybe hit the bowflex for a few hours.. i dunno..

it's amazing how much "stuff" adds up when you're focused on racing your 10-speed. i've spent the last 6 weeks on the leotard rodeo circuit. the first weekend i was home the old lady made me a laundry list of 20ish things that needed to get done asap.

so far i've finished eight... i'll try to make it nine today.

as a side note.. barry lee is the MAN! that dude puts so much into cycling.. plus he's got lizzie! thanks for everything barry...

it's always good to be home : )

st. louis is always fun.. but very hard at the same time. here's a quick recap of the weekend..

friday - fast, fun, and dangerous... mercy team rode great. chad was in the winning break but didn't call tilford's bluff and came back to the field. i was in perfect position, 4th, coming into the last corner.. botched it but chad ended up 5th.

saturday - new course.. up a hill and then back down. once again, the mercy team rode great. we were able to pull back most serious attacks and launch chad into the winning move.. he ended up 3rd behind a super strong brian jensen.

sunday - today was going to be hard.. we rode well.. with most of us avoiding serious crashes. i was evolved in a BIG pile-up and had to sit out four laps in the pit - not very good for the legs. got back in the race at the rear.. moved to the front and took a big pull to try and bring jensen back to within striking distance.. it worked. went back to the rear of the field to recover again. with four laps to go.. my great friend stevie cate took me 3/4 of the way to the font.. then big man doug greek took over and zipped me right up there. as we came through turn two on the last lap, i looked up to see the beautiful sight of mat ankney leading it out.. started at the bottom of the hill in 15th position - perfect. shifted to my 12.. started moving up the inside to set-up for the final two turns... then.. bam.. i'm pinned against the curb with nowhere to go. the sprint starts and i'm stuck. cagle was a few riders in front of me and was able to hang it out there for 6th.. i rolled in somewhere around 20th.

monday - always the hardest day. once again, long uphill.. followed by a long downhill. felt like sheit all day. jensen, wenger, and a abd guy rolled off the front and lapped the field. cagle tried many times to get a away but was too marked. jensen won with wenger taking second... nice to see him (wenger) back. once again, chad finished in the top 10 and 4th overall.

it was a great weekend and a ton of fun riding with the mercy cycling team. a BIG thanks to mat, chad, alex, stevie, doug, stefan, brian w., brian d., andreas, and hector for letting me tag along. i have a great time racing with you guys and look forward to the mercy cycling classic.

but a big thanks to all my specialized teammates... aaron (moral support), josh, scottie, geoff, and last but certainly not least, bret. you guys are awesome! i'm proud to have lined up with you...

from the start of the year two of the main goals for our morgan stanley/24 hr fitness/specialized team was the state criterium and hotter n' hell. geoff did a great job building a team that focused each of the riders talents for one common goal. not to toot our horn too much but each time all the chips where on the table we we're able to walk away smiling. it wasn't because we were that much better than everybody else, or that we had strength in numbers, but its the simple fact that we all worked together for one common goal - to win. it takes true teammates (most of the time good friends as well) to put their neck on the line time and time again sacrificing their own chance at glory for the glory of another.

this year has been a special year for me.. perhaps my last. teaming up with bret again has been great.. he was the first guy to give me a chance and has been the greatest teammate that i've ever had. thanks for everything bret.

once again.. i was back in the same kit as josh kerkhof as well. for those who don't know kerkhof.. he's probably the most talented and unselfish (and funny) kid i've ever ridden with. it's been great traveling with him again... i'll miss it. thanks for all the laughs joshua..

i teamed up with scottie v. last year on tenzing.. he was a little green back then but has made huge leaps in his racing ability.. he's another SUPER talented kid that could go big if he wanted to. he's another one who's not scared to ride on the front, he's done it time and time again for us, but will also always be there eager to help in the end. thanks scottie.

i know it's been a tough year for geoff but he's done a great job putting everything together. i know it was a huge undertaking but my hat is off to him - thanks geoff! you were always there when i needed you both on and off the bike. and sorry about the ear : )

and to our crippled teammate smathers... smathers and i have been racing together since the end of 03 and have travelled MANY miles across country together. he's always had my back no matter the situation.. my fault or otherwise. he's another one who was never scared to work and could still be almost anybody in the sprint in the end. he's had some bad luck the season and i want to wish him luck in no matter what he does on or off the bike. he's right along side with bret for being my best teammate ever... thanks bud.

this isn't a farewell... just a thanks.
