wow.. from elite champion to uspro champ. his display of emotion when he crossed the line actually brought a tear to my eye. congrats huffy! the elite race went well.. but not a well as we (mercy) had hoped - a super strong chad cagle was 5th. the team plan was for a couple of us to try and conserve as much a possible to get chad a clean shot to the line on the last lap. i think the team rode well but just came up a little short in the end. i'm proud of the mercy team (chad cagle, mat ankney, alex welch, doug greek, brian dziewa, and brian wyrick (sp?)) as they rode great but very disappointed in myself cause i wasn't able to contribute in a way that i'm accustomed to. it was nice to see some of my fellow texans in the front mixing it up. the mexican maffia (leo, edgar, and jaime) we tearing it up at the front of the field all day. fellow transplant texan, phil wicoff, rode a great race and was a respectable 7th. minturn has his name announced as he chased a break early in the race - he also smoked me in the sprint for 97th. oh well... it was a fitting end to a rough week. next up.. hotter n' hell surfy

saturday night race... seemed pretty fast.. or i'm not a fit as i thought. 186 dudes started.. single file at times.. a few crashes - one involving my main man cagle. he was off the front with tim johnson and when johnson looked back to check the gap, he took cagle down. oh well.. he's alright. kind of a fitting end to a bad. he was also pick-pocketed at union station - fugg... looking forward to tomorrow... massage tonight.. and a good night of sleep w/ little alex welchy.. wish us luck... surfy

when it rains... it pours so i’ve had an unbelievable week thus far. first… on tuesday night my wife’s car breaks down in weatherford - an hour away from 602. call to get some repair estimates and it looks like $600 is the cheapest i could find. have it towed home on wednesday night.. surprisingly only $80. the car is sitting in the driveway in euless.. thursday i packed up and began my journey to chicago via ft. smith, ar. 30 miles down the road i notice a sudden loss of power and a HUGE black cloud of black smoke behind the tdi - DAMN. pull over and immediately call a tow truck - better to be safe than sorry. i’ve had this happen once or twice before so i’m accustomed to this sort of thing. same drill.. load it up on the truck and it’s off to 602. pull in the driveway and the light bulb comes on.. let’s kill two birds with one stone. let’s just unload my car and then load up the trooper to head to the repair shop. after a few short minutes the truck is gone and my wallet is much lighter.

kansas city and stuff... i kn0w it's been a while since my last update.. so thanks for coming back. for those who don't know.. i'm finishing the season with some guest appearances for the mercy cycling team. this past weekend were my first races with the team at the tour of kansas city. for those who haven't done these races before, they're hard.. real hard. the circuit race on saturday has a "hill" that's about a 1km long and steep - i cried everytime up it. sunday is a pretty flat 8 turn crit course.. not very technical but very hot. they said the temp on the pavement was 106! the racing went well for the team. super strong chad cagle ended up 2nd overall behind a flying brian jenzen (jelly belly).. and then alex welch (mercy) rounding out the top three overall. i think i was somewhere around 10th both days... we'll be heading up to chicago this week for nationals.. wish us luck! here's my upcoming schedule: August 12 - 13: Tour of Kansas City August 19: Extran Pro/Am Challenge (Downers Grove, IL) August 20: US Elite Criterium National Championships (Downers Grove, IL) August 26 - 27: Hotter 'n Hell (Wichita Falls, TX) Sept 1 - 3: Gateway Cup (St. Louis, MO) Sept 4 - 10: Vuelta de Baja (Baja, Mexico) Sept 30 - Oct 1: Mercy Cycling Classic (Ft. Smith, AR) Oct 7: Amli Criterium (Austin, TX) Oct 15: Texas State Road Race Championships (Copperas Cove, TX)
